Well this is exciting! While we’ve been taking a bit of a summer reprieve from the hard work of producing an audio drama, DC Entertainment and Warner Premiere have announced their plan to bring the Supergirl story to the screen as part of their highly successful series of animated direct-to-DVD features.

Superman/Batman: Apocalypse, as it has been entitled, will bring to life the best-selling graphic novel by Jeph Loeb and Michael Turner, sticking as closely as possible to Turner’s unique visual style. The move features the voices of Tim Daly and Kevin Conroy reprising their roles as Superman and Batman respectively (if you lived under a rock in the 1990s, they voiced the title roles in Batman: The Animated Series and Superman: The Animated Series), along with sci-fi fan favorite Summer Glau (Firefly, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) in the role of Supergirl.

We’re really excited that DC has chosen to develop this story in animated form. It makes our show seem all that much more worthwhile! A sneak peek of the movie has surfaced from Warner Brothers. It runs about 12 minutes in length and features some great interviews with the creative forces behind the film, including the three stars, original graphic novel author Jeph Loeb, and Producer Bruce Timm. We’re in Production!

It’s true! Casting is done. The script is done. Now we’ve actually begun the process of producing our show! This is incredibly exciting for us. Most of our cast and crew have podcasted before, and many have taken part in audio drama productions, but it’s actually the first audio drama experience for us creators/executive producers/directors/whatever-you-want-to-call-us. So after more than four months of planning, organizing, drafting, revising, more drafting, more revising, washing, rinsing, and repeating, we’re finally at the heart of the whole process: recording!

Actors have their deadlines and scripts for the first half of the series. Editing assignments are being handed out. Lines have already begun coming in. Promos are almost ready to hit the web. Things are happening! Our months of patience and hard work are beginning to bear fruit and we couldn’t be happier!

The next step is to start the editing process: listen to all the actors’ lines as they are submitted, edit the scenes together, find and add in sound effects, then create the final mix. It sounds a lot simpler than it actually is. It’ll involve countless hours of work from our cast and crew, and a bit of patience along the way. Of course, all of this will go on while the second half of the series is being recorded and submitted for processing. Pre-production may be over, but the hardest work is still yet to come! It’s already been a fun experience and we’ve learned a lot about what it takes to produce this kind of a show. Hopefully the near future will teach us even more and get us ready for the next series. The best is yet to come!

It’s hard to believe this is really happening, but we’re beginning the process of shifting gears from pre-production into production mode. The cast has been notified of their roles via email, and now the staff is going to put the finishing touches on the script over the next week or so. With any luck, the cast will have the final draft of the script by this time next week. Crazy to think about, but super exciting!

Let the Casting Begin!

Wow! What a crazy couple of weeks it’s been! As of February 28, the extended audition period is officially over. Submissions came in from all sorts of great people and we couldn’t be more thrilled! We’ve been working on the initial casting process all week long. It’s been pretty difficult because we’re lucky enough to be dealing with some extremely talented folks. We plan to continue initial casting for the rest of this week, and then announce callbacks next week. Once callbacks are all in, final casting will take place. With any luck, the show will move into production at that point. That’s when things should really begin to pick up! Well, that’s about it for now. Gotta get back to work!

Auditions are Underway!

As of this past Monday night, auditions have officially begun! We plan to accept them all this week, until Sunday night, February 14, 2010 at 11:59pm ET. At that point, the staff will listen to the submissions and try to cast each actor in a role that is perfect for him or her. And then we can finally get the show on the road! The hardest work is still ahead of us, but we’re totally pumped! We can’t wait for production to get into full swing. But for now, stay tuned here, on Twitter, and on Facebook. We’ll be keeping you updated on our progress!
